Thursday NBA Blog Train: 3 games

Hawks (0-0) at Pistons (1-0)

Ah yes, the ole second night of a back-to-back on the third day of the season for Detroit. Did we take the Hawks +1.5? We took the Hawks +1.5!

There was a bizarre sequence in the 4th quarter of this game where none of the clocks were working.

Hawks 117, Pistons 100.

  • Ice Trae, bombs away! No really. Trae Young was pulling up from the logo. Six made threes en route to 38 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds in a shining season debut.

  • Cam Reddish got the start in his first NBA game, but he only scored 1 point in 21 mins. Yeah, 1 point.

  • DeAndre Bembry got a lot of run down the stretch. Bembry was solid.

Bucks (0-0) at Rockets (0-0)

Houston led by 9 going into the last frame and the Rockets were off and running in the 4th. Harden to Russ in transition. Harden was raising the roof! Then the Bucks went on a quick 10-0 run, clinging to a fresh 101 to 95 lead.

Things changed quickly when Giannis fouled out with 5 minutes left. In 28 minutes of work, The Freak scored 30 points, hauled in 13 rebounds and dished out 11 assists. The first 30-point triple-double of the young season.

Without Giannis, Milwaukee fed Brook Lopez in the post who had a sizable advantage over P.J. Tucker and Eric Gordon. The Rockets had nobody on the court who could guard BroLo and that was ultimately the difference.

Bucks 117, Rockets 111.

James Harden laid a bit of an egg. Just 2 of 13 shooting from the field, but Harden still managed 19 points, making all 14 of his free throws. The Beard chipped in 14 assists but also had 7 turnovers.

It looked like Westbrook was in line for his patented triple-double, however, he fell 3 dimes short: 24 points, 16 rebounds (!!) and 7 assists. We are not fans of whatever his new hair style is.

Clippers (1-0) at Warriors (0-0)

Welp, the Chase Center opened the same way that Oracle closed: With the Warriors getting punched in the mouth by Kawhi. Or getting slapped in the face with a very large fish, whichever you think is worse.

Clippers 141, Warriors 122.

Clippers Notes:

  • The Clippers began the game on a 14-0 run and they never trailed.

  • Kawhi did that thing again where he got to his spots and looked very much like a real terminator.

  • Pat-Pat made a career-high 6 three-pointers! JaMychal Green drained 3 of his own after hitting 4 on Opening Night.

  • It’s only been 2 games, but the Clippers sure look like a juggernaut. (Clippers -1 in this game was FREE MONEY.)

Warriors Notes:

  • Golden State’s defense broke down frequently. Points in the paint: Warriors 40, Clippers 58.

  • D-Lo’s hair looks like he has a tarantula sitting on top of his head.

  • Steph was off: 2 of 11 from deep. Jacob Evans was on: 4 of 6 from deep. Raise your hand if you had Jacob Evans making more threes than Steph.
